What is open data?
Open data is information made available for people to access and reuse, usually by governments, public institutions, researchers or other data-producing organisations. “Open” does not mean every use is unrestricted: licences, privacy rules, attribution requirements, commercial-use restrictions and publication conditions still matter.
Why this catalogue exists
South African public data is spread across many departments, portals and publication systems. RiskAtlas Tools brings those discovery points together so a researcher, product team or decision-maker can find the likely source, understand what it contains and follow the link back to the publisher.
What a catalogue entry means
An entry is a discovery record, not an endorsement that the dataset is current, complete or suitable for every purpose. Always verify methodology, update date, licence, access conditions and the publisher's original metadata before relying on it.
